A Blog is a Website
Well, it is. A blog IS a website.
In fact, more and more companies are using blogging platforms as content management systems to run their entire site. With good reason. It’s effective.
Stop for a minute and think about how powerful WordPress itself is. It’s an absolutely amazing content management system all by itself. With a few minor adjustments, WordPress can be transformed into a tool to modify and maintain just about any type of business website. Including many e-commerce applications.
Couple that with a nice shopping cart script if you happen to sell products that require a cart environment, and bammo, with very little investment you have absolutely everything you need to do business online these days.
I made this post for a reason. Many website designers would have you believe that you absolutely need flat HTML or some other coded front end to your site in order to have “a real website”. They’ll fill you full of silly reasons why it’s important to build these pages outside of your existing blogging platform, but understand one thing. They are only trying to sell you their services. They are only trying to justify their existence.
Mostly because about 90% of these designers have limited, and outdated skills. They do not know how to design anything beyond basic HTML, so they have to come up with reasons why you still need them.
You don’t.
Everything you need is right there if you already own a blog. With very little investment you can make some minor adjustments to what’s there and have just about anything you can dream up. All of it manageable from your existing admin area.
So don’t get sucked in by some SEO guru or graphic designer that wants you to spend ten grand on basic web design. Look into other scripting and design options in your existing platform. Your pocketbook will thank you.
