How to Write a Blog: More Business Blogging Basics
Baby bloggers face a tough road. One of the biggest obstacles is writing regular blog posts when you know that nobody is reading them. Motivation can be extremely hard to find. Blogging to an audience that isn’t there makes it that much harder.
The catch 22 of this is that if you keep blogging regularly, they will be there. So will these early posts to your blog. So in fact, you are blogging to a real audience. A real readership. Just a future one. But to get there, you have to find that motivation and write that conversation now. As if you have millions of readers from the very start.
When I was in high school, I took some drama classes. We had to give speeches, do improvisational skits, and act out little pieces of plays. All in front of an audience. However, much of the practice that I did was at home. In front of a mirror, with no one watching at all. In my mind’s eye, I pictured a giant crowd in that mirror while practicing. When it came time to do the bit in front of real people, it didn’t phase me much, because in my mind, I had already done it.
The same holds true for blogging. At least for me. I wrote this blog for a few months without many readers at all. But every day that I wrote, I wrote as if my following was enormous. Just like the mirror from 25 years ago, I pictured them out there, sitting in front of their computers. But rather than just writing for them, I talked to them. Just as I am talking to you now.
To get your blog rolling you are going to need to stay focused and convicted to making it happen. Content, content, content. You have to write it as often as you possibly can. So picture your readers when blogging. Write like you speak, and talk to them. As if they are sitting in the room with you.
If you use this basic blogging principal, your blog has a chance at success. In the not so distant future, there really will be people discussing your business on your blog. Practice now and refine your conversation. By the time they get there, you’ll already have a rhythm going and know just how to keep things moving along.
