Daily content or daily crap?
Ho hum. Another day in the old blogosphere…
Anyone tired of hearing the screams of “content is king?”
I am. Because it’s only a half truth when taken at face value. Which is what many business blogs do the second they read it. They run back to their respective websites and start posting without any direction at all. Because “content is king.”
But with junk blogs, all you get is junk traffic.
And let’s face it, there are a bunch of junky company blogs. Spam blogs filled with nonsensical gibberish, written in some half ass effort to get a search listing or two. Because the boss is screaming for more content, without a second thought about what that content should be.
Either that, or the company has hired a “professional” blogger that’s really not that much of a pro and isn’t doing them any good either.
So what’s a company to do in order to make their business blog productive? Well, first of all, it should have clear objectives and purpose. Adding any new facet to your website is in fact adding a new facet to your business. If you were adding a whole new section to your bricks and mortar company you would likely have a written plan. A course of direction that your company needs to take in order to see that new service or product come to fruition.
Right?
Then why is it that corporations and small business alike often skip this step when it comes to a new part of their website? It’s as much a new part of your business as adding a new location would be. So you need a plan when it comes to your content and you need to follow that plan.
Because following the craze without the purpose is foolish. But knowing why you need the content, why it is king, and how you are going to use it to your advantage is the edge your company needs to sit at the top of those search engine result pages.
Content IS king. But harnessing the king’s power takes knowledge.
Take the time to plan your content. Take the time to plan your blog.
