Coffee is for Closers: Making the sale with your blog

Remember “Glengarry, Glen Ross?” If you’ve never seen it, I really recommend that you do. It’s a great movie about some shady, high pressure real estate salesman / telemarketers.
At one point in the movie, Alec Baldwin (I think it was Alec, or one of the thirty other brothers that keep crawling out of the woodwork) says to Jack Lemmon, “Coffee is for closers.” Which out of context probably doesn’t mean much, if you haven’t seen the movie.
But I digress. Where I’m going with this is that you need to remember that your blog is to move your readers to a call to action that ultimately leads to sales. If you are not closing sales with your business blog, then you need to change what you are doing. Because that’s what it’s for. Helping you create more income for your company.
Now, your blog doesn’t have to be a high pressure sales arena. Far from it. You can create a successful blog that does in fact move your readers to that call to action without a single sales pitch. Especially if your call to action is obtaining leads or user info. There are plenty of other ways to get this information from users without pitching them at all.
But if you sell a service, which most companies that are blogging do, you should also take the time to pitch yourself once in a while. Even if your blog is already creating a lot of leads in other areas. There’s a reason the coffee is for closers. Because they sell more.
Take a look at your own sales force if you have one. You have good salespeople, sure. But there’s always one or two that outshine the rest. The closers.
And what do the closers do that the others don’t?
They ask for the sale.
So ask for the sale. Use your blog to ask for sales from time to time. You don’t have to beg incessantly, that’s really annoying. But it’s perfectly fine to point out one of your services and the associated cost once in a while. Because some of your readers may not know you offer that product or service. They may also not know just how affordable it is.
But if you point it out, they might just buy it from you.
Yup, coffee is in fact for closers. So use your blog to close a few more deals. They are out there, just waiting for you to ask for them.
