Commenting on Blog Comments
Comments for a business blog can be tough to get.
Especially if your blog is really boring and super technical. Which most company blogs are, sad to say. But understand, getting comments on your blog is important. It shows your new readers that they are joining an active community. It also helps with blog SEO by adding new content.
But how can you get these much needed comments? Once again, I fall on advice from my grandparents. My grandmother in this case, who used to say, “to have a friend, you have to be a friend.”
Simple, huh? Want comments on your blog? Go out and make comments on other blogs. Become active in other communities and you’ll see activity within your own. There are some things you need to know though before you go out into the blogosphere and start commenting.
1. Don’t Spam!
Comment on articles and posts with genuine, useful input. Don’t just comment for the sake of commenting. Use the golden rule and some common sense folks. If you want to have a useful community full of great content, don’t you think that those other sites do too?
2. Use your real name.
I know it’s tempting to try and get some link juice by posting some keywords instead of your name so that you can get some good anchor text, but think about it for a second. People want to talk to other people, not a keyword. I’m guilty of it myself and have done it in the past. But I realized that I wanted this on my blogs and now follow this rule on other blogs as well. Once again, do unto others….
3. Don’t obsess.
I know I talk a lot about search engine optimization, keywords, backlinks, etc. But don’t obsess about this stuff. Get out there and get involved. If you do it honestly and with a clear heart, the rest will follow. The key is activity. If you get out there and get involved, you’ll see the karma float back in your direction.
It’s as easy as 1-2-3 my friends. Go out and comment. You’ll see that in time, your own comments will start to grow.
