Are business blogs a waste of time?

Wired Magazine’s Paul Boutin wrote an article recently claiming that blogging was dead.

Writing a weblog today isn’t the bright idea it was four years ago. The blogosphere, once a freshwater oasis of folksy self-expression and clever thought, has been flooded by a tsunami of paid bilge.

Pretty funny that Wired, who has more blogs than Carter’s has pills, has taken this position. Especially when it’s so untrue. But I’m glad that Wired published the article, and I hope that lots and lots of people take Paul Boutin’s advice.

Why?

Because it just makes it that much easier for me and my clients. You see, blogging is far from dead. It’s really just in it’s infancy. I’ve been working online for close to 14 years, and I know trends. But blogging is not just a trend my friends. It’s a phenomenon. The advent of the blogging platform and the ease of use of blog software has created the ability for anyone to publish content. Anytime they want to.

That’s real power.

And until something else comes along that has MORE power than blogging, business blogs are here to stay.

Will something else come along to replace blogging someday? Maybe. But my hunch is that blogging will simply evolve into whatever it is to become. Mr. Boutin mentioned Facebook and Twitter in his article. But those sites are just direct results of blogging. Almost everyone that uses Twitter refers to it as a Microblog.

Micro “what”???

Blog.

Social bookmarking wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for blogs. Blogging has brought the world into the 2.0 era and won’t be replaced anytime soon. Mark my words on that.

So for those that do opt with taking Paul Boutin’s advice, I wish you well. Because your business is going to face a rough road without a blog. That’s why we are building new company blogs in record numbers for our clients.

Because they work. Don’t buy this bulls**t. If your company needs help with building a solid online presence, build a blog. Blogging is the number one thing a business should be doing as far as internet promotion goes. Without a blog, your internet business outlook is going to be quite a bit more bleak.

Be sure and bookmark this post if you do decide to build a blog. In a couple of years, come back and make a comment about blogging. Let’s see if blogging is still as alive and well in 2010, shall we?

I’ll bet ya a donut that it’s even bigger in 2010. I guess we’ll just have to hang around and see, won’t we?

See ya in October, 2010. Let’s pick up right here and see just how blogging is doing. I look forward to your comments.
