Does your business blog suck?
Well? Does it?
Let’s be honest boys and girls, lots of business blogs plain old suck. It might be that your blog sucks too.
So take a look at your blog and ask yourself, “is this the ultimate in suckitude in the blogosphere?”
It might be hard for you to tell if your blog is the suckiest of the sucky, being jaded and all. It is, after all, your blog. Your baby. Your medium online. But take a minute and really evaluate that baby before we go any further.
OK. You’re still with me. I’m assuming that either you are certain your blog sucks or on the fence. It’s cool. There are some tell tale signs that it’s a stinker, so let’s go over them.
1. You have some traffic, but your bounce rate is high. What’s a bounce rate? If you use Google Analytics and track how people use your blog, you can see if they are hitting your page and closing their browser or clicking on the back button in a New York minute. Yes, some of these people are getting to your site by searching for mixed terms that have nothing to do with what you offer, but watch these numbers and track how your users use your website.
2. You have some traffic, and they even stick around a while. But you have ZIPPO in the comments. Everybody likes to be a part of something and that includes your customers. If they are not posting comments on your blog, then your blog probably sucks. Even a little ‘keep up the good work” comment once in a while is better then nada.
If you have traffic and zero or little comments, you really need to work on your overall presentation. That is, how you talk to your readers. If you are boring them to sleep with tech talk, spice it up a bit. Talk to them my friends, not at them.
3. This ought to be pretty obvious, but listen to your readers that post ‘you suck’ comments. Most business blogs write off these comments as kiddies and nonsense, but it might just be that your blog sucks. It might just be that the comment was written by someone in your desired audience. Your demographic, therefore a potential customer. If one customer thinks it sucks, it’s probable that others feel the same way.
Look for signs, and unsuck your blog. It can be an awesome business tool if you use that blog correctly.
