Make Money Blogging

It’s the big question isn’t it. We hear it every single day.

How do I make money blogging?

If you already own a business and are using your blog to promote it, this post is not for you. Today we’re going to focus on the millions of people wanting to make money online. Specifically, making money by blogging.

Because it is a question we hear every single day. From retired people to people that just want to work at home, the group of would be entrepreneurs is growing faster than ever before.

And they all want to know one thing. How to make money. Period.

To add fuel to the fire, there are about a million marketing websites out there offering a solution. For a fee, that is. If you pay them $69, they’ll give you their closely guarded secrets, known only by millionaire marketers, blogging their way to untold fortunes….

Yeah, right…. :)

Now let’s take a reality break. First of all, blogging can be tough. It sounds like it would be easy to make a blog post each and every day. But it is not that easy. After about thirty or forty posts, most bloggers wake up with the worst case of writers block in the world. They haven’t a clue what they are going to write that day.

Either that, or they wake up lazy. Which is even worse. Because one lazy day can lead to ten. Or twenty. Or never. That’s right, this is where blogging for profit entrepreneurs go to die…

So back to the topic. How can you avoid all this and make money by blogging?

Here we go:

1. Be Realistic.

Your blog is not going to make money the very first day. It will take time, maybe a lot of it. Understanding this from the beginning might just help you get to the successful part.

2. Monetize Properly.

If you are building a blog for the sole purpose of making money with it instead of promoting your business, you are going to need the appropriate affiliates. Choosing the right affiliate programs is huge. If you don’t have any idea how to monetize your affiliate website (which is really what this type of blog is), then find some help. But monetize well, and monetize sparingly. A little goes a long way. Blogs that are spattered with links scream spam to their readers. So keep the money side of things as clean as possible.

3. Build a Real Resource.

Making money blogging is only going to happen for you if you build a real resource. A website with value to the readers that frequent it. If you build a junky, cut and paste spam blog, you’re going to get junky, cut and paste spam blog results. Take pride in what you are building. Work to create a community that truly helps those that use it. Provide useful material and you’ll get the results you want much quicker.

4. Choose the Right Topic.

Choosing the right topic for your blog is super important. Pick something you love. It doesn’t have to be something you are an expert about, though being an expert can surely help. But at the very least, select a blog topic that you are passionate about. Because it’s going to need your attention for a very long time to be productive. If you choose a topic just because your neighbor told you it would make big bucks, you are doomed to fail from the beginning. My grandfather said it and I believe it. “Do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.”

5. Get a Real Blog.

Do not even consider putting up blogs on freehosts. Free blog hosting is super limited in more ways than one. You often do not get the freedom to shape your blog in the way it needs to be shaped. Invest a little. Get a domain name that is relevant to your topic and then put it on paid web hosting. You’ll get much more freedom in the long run. Plus, your site can grow with new options and features on paid hosting, where it really can’t when it’s sitting on Blogger.com.

6. Unique Content.

It is tempting to turn your blog into a cut and paste site. It’s easy to find content from other blogs and websites that fits your topic. But it is not very beneficial in any other aspect. It doesn’t help you in the search engines, and it doesn’t make your blog something special to it’s readers. It makes it a spam site. Everyone hates spam sites…

7. Hang in There.

Last, but not least, hang in there my friends. The magic is not going to happen overnight. You are going to get frustrated, and you are probably going to want to quit. But don’t quit before the magic happens. You’re probably never going to get rich blogging. But if you build a good resource and your traffic grows substantially, you may someday make enough to quit your day job. Some of the top blogs online today make in the tens of thousands of dollars each month for the advertising they sell. If you hang in there, you might just be one of them.

That’s the basics. This is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to making money with a blog, but it will get you started. If you stick to these seven guidelines, your blog might just make you a few bucks.

And you got it for free. So much for the secret to making money with blogs, huh?
