Is your weblog doomed?
Has it been a while since your blog was updated?
Can you almost see the cobwebs hanging off of the link to it on your main page?
Why don’t you go ahead and click that baby. Pop on over to your blog and take a peak at the date of the last post. Do you even remember what it was about?
If the date on your blog has a month other than the one we’re in, it might be that your business blog is doomed. Or at the very least, in need of some serious attention. No, the search engines aren’t punishing blogs for not updating at regular intervals, nor do I think they ever will. But I’ll tell you who might punish you for not updating that blog….
Your readers. Translated, your customers.
Even worse, potential customers that were thinking about contracting you for your offered service or buying one of your products. But when they started looking for a reason to buy (or a reason not to) they found time specific material and got a that same feeling of abandonment you had when you were looking at the blog link on your main page. It’s worse for you when they feel it though. Because you feel it too. In your wallet.
Think about the psychology for a minute. It’s really pretty simple. If you don’t take care of your site with regular updates, it’s possible that your readers may interpret that to be that you don’t take care of other things. Or anything. Remember, they were looking for a reason NOT to buy as well.
Their ears are perked up when shopping online as it is. I’ve read a ton of surveys about the overall trust level of purchases made online and I’m here to tell you, it ain’t pretty. Why in the world would you give them that reason to turn tail and run?
Especially if your site is service oriented.
It takes only a few minutes to make a blog post. If you absolutely do not have the time, hire someone to do it for you. It’s cheap and an effective source of new content.
And it might just add a few dollars to your gross sales this year.
