Business Blog Lambs and Lions

Blogging Styles For Business Blogs

There are as many different kinds of business blogs out there as there are grains of sand on the beach.

Or so it seems. At least when you consider how many different industries there are.

Each of these taking on different approaches when it comes to their daily blogging and it’s line of discussion. Some bounce all over the place, some are super academic and techy, others are just plain silly.

But all of them have something in common. All of them, if you read them regularly, say something about the person doing that daily blog post. After you read a blog for a while, you start to become familiar with it’s writer. Their style of writing, their business disposition, etc. You kind of feel like you know them in a way.

You also know what type of business person they are. I have two definitions for the bloggers I read on a regular basis. Lambs and Lions.

Lambs and lions are just what you probably think they are. It’s the demeanor the blog is written with. The approach they use when promoting themselves and their business.

The lambs are the really soft touch types. This doesn’t mean they aren’t good business people. Far from it. Some of the lambs run extremely successful blogs and super successful companies. They just have a different flavor to them when you read what they’ve written. They are nice. Their posts are somehow “soft”.

Then you have the lions. Boisterous bloggers that seem to scream at you with every word. Not really carnival barkers, but they definitely have a different presence then a lamb. They almost command attention with their daily musings about their business or industry. They mean business.

Which set is more effective you are probably wondering at this point. I haven’t a clue. Because I’ve seen blogs that are at the top of their fields run by both types of bloggers. One thing I can tell you that differs when it comes to lion blogs or lamb blogs is the people who read them. They seem to attract a different demographic.

You guessed it. Lions seem to attract more lions. Lambs draw more lambs. Not exclusively, but if the blog comments are any indication, they do have substantially different communities.

So which do you prefer? And which are you, if you happen to write a business blog….
