Traffic Strategies: More Teamwork!

More Blog Traffic

Just a few days ago, I posted an article about creating a blog content team within your organization. Which started me on a line of thought in regard to using your team in other areas.

One reader made a comment suggesting that this might be a bit Utopian of me, and he may be right. It may be too much to ask your staff to all become writers overnight. But it might not be too much to ask them to do other things to promote your blog and website.

Like doing things they already do…

Let’s face it, every corporation on the planet knows that they are losing a percentage of productivity to social websites. Stumble Upon, Facebook, My Yearbook, etc. Employees everywhere are spending company time hanging out on these sites, whether the boss knows it or not.

So why not put them to work on these websites? Why not acknowledge the fact that they are on these high traffic social bookmarking sites and ask them to use part of that wasted time to benefit the company? More specifically, ask them to bookmark your blog posts on the company blog.

Think about it. They are already there, established as members of their favorite social site. With friend lists and built in personal blog pages. All ready to help you promote your business blog.

Are you getting this yet?

Some of you not familiar with the power of social bookmarking might be puzzled. Understand, these sites have a ton of traffic. Stumble Upon and Facebook alone can send your site thousands and thousands of new visitors in a day with a popular bookmark. Some of those visitors are looking for the products and services that you offer. Quite possibly translating to new clients and more sales.

All from using some of the so called “lost time” your employees are wasting on these social bookmark sites anyway.

An added bonus to lots of bookmarks in these communities is the natural backlinking that also occurs. Building up your blogs Page Rank, and can really have a positive impact on your blogs overall SEO. Taking you higher and higher in the search engine result pages (SERP).

*Important*
Remember to respect these sites when putting together any kind of marketing plan that includes social bookmarking. Each and every community has their own set of terms and conditions. What is allowed on one site may not be on another. If you do not follow the rules they will ban your site and keep anyone, including your customers, from submitting links to them. Don’t get blacklisted for ignorance. Read their rules and follow them.
